Thanks. I'm sure you're right, and my initial inclination was to delete that paragraph. However, the headline also includes the word "is" -- so I decided not to :).
Some notes: 1. The Divinity School, led by a black woman, recently came under fire in the Free Press for being very anti-Israel (on “colonial” grounds.)
You fail to recognize that Harvard faculty has accepted what far right trolls also have and people like you don't.That a blind meritocracy won't achieve racial equity, not in tech, not in sports and not in academia. You have to chose before constitutional meritocracy and racial preferences, and Harvard has made that choice.People like you who try to do both will be confused by their actions
You're right in most respects, but honestly, I'm not concerned with "doing both". I understand the impulse to want to achieve "equity", but I think basing decisions on race is racist, and I oppose racism.
There is a view that, lets say the elected officials of a state or a country arent half male half female like the population, the outcome is sexist, even if not a single individual held sexist views when voting.Simply cultural and social forces have been unconsiously wokring, and society should try to dismantle them. One could argue, that treating people equally,in case of a black and a white person,is ignorant of the long history of slavery and thus racist.Even a person who has been living among black and white people from a little kid and he doesnt even perceve skin color can be racist, simply because he hasnt studied american history and isnt actively trying to reverse the long damages of America's white supremacist past.America was a racist country, and it still is to an extent, there is no denying that. And even if there was not one single person with racist views, there are a lot of people who woul say America is still a racist country.Ultimately there are two definitions of racism, one is conscious, treating people differently because of their race, one is simply the differences of outcomes between races. And we cant eradicate both of those things(Black family income hasnt spiked as anti-black racism reduction would suggest in the last years),and a big portion of people in the left chose to focus on the second over the first. So when you say you oppose racism, and not so bravely avoid the minefield, you could try answering a simpler question.A person from South korea in USA is ten times more likely to get a phd than a person from Africa,is that Racist?(not just negative, not cringe but Racist with capital R)The answer to that, provided that racism is sth almost everyone agrees is negative, has two very different political propositions.
2. Khalil Gibran Muhammad: his great grandfather was a Nation of Islam leader. I’m not saying he holds the same views but NOI is both racist and antisemitic.

I saw that article. Not surprising, given the times, but quite distressing nonetheless.
